As an outlet for Christian martial artists, The Christian Martial Artist provides us the opportunity to discuss and perfect our styles of martial arts. As we add more videos about various techniques, we are introducing the Situational Self-Defense Challenge. Each issue we will present “What-If Scenario” and we challenge everyone to submit a video demonstrating the best way to escape the situation and why your way is the best. Understanding the Hurricane

     One of the few downsides of living in the beautiful, sunny state of Florida is hurricane season.
     Those of us that actually lived through storms like Hurricane Andrew and witnessed the destruction left behind know how quickly lives can be turned upside down.
     The strange thing about hurricanes though is that they usually have a defined eye that passes over you once the outer bands that bring the rain and winds have passed. The eye of the storm is quiet and safe; the skies turn blue, the sun shines, all is normal. It is definitely better to be at the calm, safe, center of the storm than experiencing it’s punishing, whipping winds and rains at the outer edges.
     Well, God’s will is exactly like the hurricane’s eye….

Bow to the Master

Of all the portrayals of martial arts, the most stereotypical feature associated with martial artist is the bow. While not every portrayal shows a correct bow, it seems about every TV clip or comedy routine about martial arts includes some depiction of a bow.
Where many outside the martial arts community may not understand to point of bowing, as the availability of training increases it seems even some martial artists may not understand exactly what their bow represents.

Are They Legit? Finding Christian Martial Arts Instructors

As Christian’s we seek to honor God in everything we do, so when we are learning martial arts we should make sure our instructor is someone who will encourage us to follow Jesus’ path. Unfortunately, not every martial arts instructor is a Christian, and some instructors claim to be but don’t put Christ’s will ahead of their own.
So we are left with an interesting dilemma
